My Baby Shower and a Baby Update, 35 Weeks

I’ve always wanted to have a party with a fancy cheese plate like this. I was so excited when my mom told me I could go to the store and pick out whatever cheeses I wanted for the cheese plate.

She came all the way from Connecticut to throw me a baby shower in my new house!

I tried to remember everything I could from watching The Barefoot Contessa arrange her gorgeous cheese plates.

Everything was so pretty. My mom dressed up mason jars with twine (like we did for my wedding) but this time with little tags that said “It’s a boy” and stickers with the shower date.

There were blue hydrangeas and pretty striped straws and little stuffed monkey rattles (she got all the cute monkey accessories from and vines hanging as decoration.

I made punch with blue curacao, Malibu rum, pineapple juice and Sprite. Too bad I couldn’t have any, but the girls at the party loved it. So much that I had to send Nick to the store to get more pineapple juice and sprite!

My mom also stayed up until 2am making these adorable little monkey cupcakes. They were banana cake with chocolate frosting. She used vanilla wafers as the ears and mouth and bought candy eyes at Michaels.

What did party planners do before Pinterest?

We had mini croissants with turkey and roast beef, mini salads in little cups with lemon poppy seed dressing, and fruit salad for lunch.

My mom also took the time to put together Baby Shower Jeopardy. Everyone loved it and it was the perfect game.

She had little wine bottles as prizes and everyone at the end (even if you didnt win) had scratch off lotto tickets taped under their chairs.

Since I made a pink ombre cake for my bridal shower, we thought it was only right that I make a blue one for my baby shower.

The cake ended up tasting really light like angel food and the cream cheese frosting was so good.

I couldn’t have asked for a better day and it was so wonderful to have all of my friends and family in my new home helping me prepare and welcome soon to come Baby Austin.

Thank you everyone… we feel so blessed.

Week 35: Baby is the size of a Coconut

Average size: 17.2-18.7 inches, 4.2-5.8 lb.
Hearing is fully developedโ€ฆ
Weight Gain: I’ve fallen behind in my updates and I am so sorry! The good news is I am holding on at a weight gain of 33lbs. I didn’t gain any weight in the last couple weeks. Phew. (Although I do have another appointment tomorrow so we will see)

How I’m feeling: I’m getting pretty tired lately, but I think little man has dropped a little so my rib pain has gone away for the most part (hooray!) I still am taking Zantac for my heartburn though, but it helps manage it.

I will start working for home in a couple weeks until my leave starts and I am so very grateful for that. This commute is kicking my butt. I am also a little impatient at times (hormonal) but I am trying to keep that in check.

Most Major Issues:  Super low energy through out the day and I am finding it hard to walk around or pick things up or go up stairs, basically it’s hard to do anything other than just sit there. This morning when I was on my way to work I got so tired all of a sudden (I had only been out of bed for 2 hours —  so that’s not cool)

Maternity clothes: I’m pretty sick of all these clothes at this point. Leggings and a tunic of some kind are basically my uniform right now. I don’t feel pretty at all. I’ve been looking at all the cute Spring clothes coming out and I hate that I can’t wear them.

People have asked if I plan to take maternity photos. Not this time around. I think I’d like to wait until I lose some of the weight and then take some family photos.

Stretch marks: OMG no … not yet… please, please, please I hope it stays this way.

Sleep: I can’t believe I am saying this but … I love sleeping lately and this little boy actually lets me sleep. When I pass out I am out like a light. He doesn’t kick me in the middle of the night and I haven’t had to get up and pee until around 6am. I make it from 10:30 or 11 until 6am and it’s amazing.

Once I build that pillow cocoon around me … I’m out for the count.

Best moment this week: Last night I was was watching Nick put together our new Snugamonkey swing in our empty living room (literally still empty). As I sat awkwardly with my big belly on the staircase watching him, I was thinking: “This is exactly what I always wanted and how I pictured it” That doesn’t happen often in life and I know I am so very lucky.

I sound so cheesy right now but I truly feel like I have everything I have ever wanted and more. Such a happy time for us.

Movement: There isn’t too much room in there but I get these huge bulge movements below my ribs and I know that’s his little butt and then I get a kick on my side by my hips. He still gets the hiccups a lot.

It’s so strange to feel so close to him but not totally know him yet.

Food cravings: Fruit. Smoothies. Anything cold (lots of ice in my drinks) and ICE CREAM FLOATS! P.S. I can’t really eat a lot. There is just no room. I get sick if I eat anything more than a small portion.

Belly Button in or out? What belly button?

Your baby shower sounds sooo cute!! I love the little monkey theme! ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m getting excited for you, your little one will be here so soon. Relax and enjoy the last few weeks of pregnancy (i’m sure that is harder said than done, as I’m in the same boat).
